Cat
While these are all wonderful dogs, I am saddened by the lack of Tosa Inu on your list. This Japanese Mastiff shares the mastiff qualities of strength, loyalty, courageousness, alertness, stubbornness, protectiveness, etc., but is also a dog that is very loving and forms a deep attachment with its family. One unusual feature for the breed is that it is bred not to bark! It can bark, and does bark or growl if it feels threatened or someone is threatening its human, but the instinct is reduced because the rules of Tosa dog fighting require silence. Yes, I did say “dog fighting”. The Tosa is also known as the Japanese Fighting, but that does not mean it is dangerous. The type of fighting for which these dogs were and continue to be bred is similar to Sumo wrestling, and there are very strict rules regarding how the dogs fight. For instance they can grab at the scruff of the neck, but they cannot bite other places or go for the muzzle: to do so is in violation of the rules and the dogs are separated immediately. Dogs are well-treated and they even wear ceremonial garb for presentation before the fight.
